Avoid Negative Impacts on QHP Current Coverage when Reporting gain of Medicare in MN-EES.

8/28/2026 8:36:06 AM

Consumers should not report a future gain of Medicare coverage more than one month in advance. Reporting it too early may cause the MNsure system to calculate the incorrect amount of advance premium tax credit (APTC) or cost-sharing reductions (CSR) for household members who will remain enrolled in a qualified health plan

For example, if Medicare coverage begins October 1, the change should be reported in September.

Reporting the gain of Medicare does not automatically terminate the consumer’s current qualified health plan. During the update, the consumer will be asked whether they want to keep or end their coverage. Be sure to review these selections carefully before submitting the change.
